Case 001: A Call for Help

The Claims | Equipment and Setup | The Investigation | Our Results
This investigation is going to be difficult to talk about in the context of our other investigations. Unlike all of our previous investigations, Case 001 is our first ever private investigation of a local residence where the homeowner reached out to us for help, and in that request comes a different mindset from the get-go. For ghost hunters, such a request is getting called up into the Big Leagues.
With our other investigations, we certainly try to maintain an air of professionality as a general rule, but one undeniable aspect to them is that we're there to have fun. This is our pasttime, afterall. However, this request changed that, and our pasttime thus became our mission. Professionality alone won't cut it — understanding, patience, and no small amount of empathy are required for situations like this where we are called upon to help a member of our community. Not only that, the homeowner requested a degree of privacy on this one, in that she didn't want her home's exterior shown and she did not want to be filmed. As such, Jecca and I opted to play this one close to the chest and be the only investigators from our team involved in the investigation.
Note: We did acquire permission to film our investigation and post it on YouTube, so long as the home exterior wasn't shown, the homeowner wasn't filmed, and the home interior was treated carefully. All footage was reviewed and approved prior to posting.
This case will also be difficult to discuss for a number of reasons. The first reason is that this case involves three full investigations and two cleansings, all of which started a few months prior to this blog post. We filmed everything, but the third investigation wasn't the most fruitful, so we didn't produce a video for it, which sort of necessarily left out the second cleansing (you'll understand when you watch the second video below). The second reason is we that also did a whole separate investigation of the Dr. Martin Walton House in the middle of all this, so unfortunately my memory regarding the timelines, specific details, and the general storytelling aspect of all this has gotten muddied along the way. That's on me for not documenting along the way, but that's where we're at. Lastly, this case involves two cleansings — one of which was with a medium — something I'm certainly not experienced with or knowledgeable enough in to write about with any sort of confidence. So as different as this case is from our normal fare, this blog post is going to be a bit rough as well. My apologies up front.
The Claims
The initial discussion we had with the homeowner would reveal that she was a medium and had prior experience with entities in her home, claiming that she had successfully crossed over two child spirits in the past. However, her recent illness had caused her to become physically weak and stressed, and her medium abilities were adversely affected as a result. She reached out to us because she could no longer handle her situation on her own, claiming that there were four entities in her home that were bothering her and her dog. To back up her claims, she even provided some rather compelling video evidence of some of the activity occurring in her home.
Being a medium, she was able to describe the entities in detail. One was a tall, thin entity that would get in her way as she traversed the length of her house. Another entity was described as being a large "garbage bag" shape, and it would grab at her legs while she was in bed. The remaining two were a pair of fat "bowling pin" shaped entities, and hung out in the front portion of her home and watched her. Activity in general ranged from loud knocking sounds, to sounds of items being thrown around, to physical touching/grabbing, the sounds of foot steps, items being knocked off the walls and other surfaces, and sensations of being watched.
Equipment and Setup
Not only would our general mindset be different in this case, but our setup and use of equipment would evolve with the investigation. The homeowner called us in to investigate, but also requested that we find a way to get the activity to stop. So we opted to hold multiple investigations, and enlist the help of Jecca's mother, who is a practitioner of Metaphysical Christianity and had experience in cleansings. We would also contact a local medium about helping later on in the process, thinking that if the homeowner (a medium) was able to deal with the activity in the past, a fellow medium might be able to help as well if the initial cleansing were to fall short of expectations.
In total, we conducted three investigations and two rounds of cleansings — one with Jecca's mother and one with the medium. Over the course of the three investigations, we would employ every piece of equipment and every methodology we knew in our attempts to reach out to the entities. These included our EMF/REM devices, our SLS camera, flashlight communication, our dead bell, the Estes Method, active listening, and even a round with the Infinity Deck (with shockingly accurate results).
The Investigation
In lieu of any discussion on the investigations, we're just going to present the following two videos on their own. This way we're not revealing any more than what the approved videos show, out of our commitment to maintaining the level of privacy requested by the homeowner. The videos below cover the first two investigations and (some of) the first cleansing pass.
It was incredible being part of this cleansing, getting to see Jecca's mother and Yamile go to work and to bear witness to a spirit being crossed over and the activity we investigated come to an end. Not only had we helped out a member of our community, but we saw the real impact and meaning of our work. I'm sure these types of investigations will be rare, but to receive that kind of validation makes all our prior efforts all the more worthwhile.
However, our victory would be short-lived. The activity in the home had been apparently gone for about a week, and as you saw in the second video, the homeowner had reported peace and quiet. About a week later, though, she reported the sounds of knocking running up and down the length of the home on the outside, as if something was trying to find a way inside. It would come and go, but would result in a rather violent incursion in which she reported an entity came in through her front door and knocked over the contents of a nearby table. After that, the homeowner reported interacting with a female entity, and hearing the voice of a second, male entity. She would go on to request a third investigation to see if we could find any information about these alleged new entities.
The third investigation consisted of more flashlight communication and Estes Method questioning, as well as our first dabbling with the Infinity Deck. For context, the Infinity Deck is a deck of cards that are labeled with things like yes, no, stop, ask again, and maybe. The idea is you lay them face-down and ask questions, and your intuition (or abilities, if you are sensitive) lead you to an answer. It's about as close to a Quija Board as we'd like to get, and it's usefulness on an investigation such as this is questionable at best. I'm confident in saying that, but at the same time, we got arguably and shockingly accurate responses with it. Unfortunately, we opted not to produce a video of this third investigation, so you'll just have to take my word for it. But we lead the investigation with an Estes Method session, followed by a flashlight communication session. Our prepared list of targeted questions was used for both sessions, and we followed up by using the Infinity Deck. We were just experimenting, to be honest with you, but after asking the same questions, we got the same responses. The rest of the night was quiet, but that Infinity Deck session was outright spooky.
A week after our third investigation, we brought in our medium to perform a second cleansing. I'm not sure I can even begin to describe what occurred. Her practice comes from a Catholic background, and is steeped in that particular aspect of Christian sprirituality. Prayers were said, Latin was used, holy water was used in excess, and several substances stronger than sage was burned. I think she was even channeling the entire time. I know I'm not describing it appropriately, for which I apologize. I was by the medium's side for most of it, acting as an assistant and extra pair of hands, and I still find it difficult to describe. All I can say is that it was truly incredible to participate in.
Weeks later, after another period of much-needed peace and quiet, the homeowner reported activity has since continued, albeit at a much slower, quieter rate. Among everything the medium did was to task the homeowner with clearing out items she knew had bad/unwanted energy, and despite her illness, to find within herself the means to stand her ground and take back her home. We had all played a part in releasing certain energies from her home, but the onus was on the homeowner to bring about the kind of energy she wanted in her home.
Our Results
As of this blog post, the homeowner is still giving me updates on her progress. We don't know yet if more investigations are in order, but we have exhausted our services for cleansing the home (without repeated cleansings, of course). So we don't know what other assistance we might be able to provide going forward. That being said, while activity remains in some small capacity, it's at least better, and that's a lot more than I genuinely expected out of our first ever actual house call. Our results are as follows:
- Several EVPs recorded
- SLS footage of an entity captured in front room
- Multiple, in-depth Estes Method sessions
- Multiple, in-depth flashlight communication sessions
- One entity ("Phillip") crossed over
- Two other entities removed (crossed over TBD)
Here's where I normally thank a venue owner for giving us the opportunity to investigate their location. However, given that this was a call for help, it would be inappropriate to thank the homeowner for such. But what I can thank her for is trusting us with her unique situation, being an active participant in all this, and for believing in us. I won't mention you by name, but if you're reading this, we genuinely hope things are better and continue to improve.
